Typical February in Winnetka. Get our hopes up with a couple of nice days and then dash those hopes with winter weather.
The ground is still frozen and unable to accept rainfall. The course received an inch of rain over the weekend, but the grounds behave as if it was much more, due to the grounds frozen nature. The surface drains are working well as they can be. "Birdbaths" on the course and surrounding properties are likely to hold water until the ground thaws or evaporation takes it's toll on the puddles.
We have several chances at snow over the next week. Don't put your shovels away just yet.

Hi Folks:
I'm going to give blogging a try. Many Superintendent around the country have found this to be an effective tool for communicating our programs and practices. While we typically have a lot on our plate, this year will be extra special with a fairway regrassing project in our future.
The golf course today is drying up. The last 24 hours have opened up quite a bit of area to observe. Greens, tees and fairways all look great. Although the freeze/thaws cycles of late winter can still do damage to turf, right now.............all good.
Until next time.
